mfd conversion fiber array

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

MFD conversion fiber array units (FAUs) provide a means of low-loss coupling to waveguides with smaller mode-fields. The arrays are made using a short section of ultra-high-NA (UHNA) fiber that is spliced to a pigtail of a standard SM or PM fiber. A protective metal tube is placed over the splice and each splice is inserted into a 900µm loose tube. Due to the thermally-expanded core of UHNA fibers, the splice loss to standard fiber is typically less than 0.3dB.

MFD conversion FAUs are commonly made using the following UHNA fibers:

  • Nufern UHNA1 (to SMF-28) - 1100-1600nm; Core NA=0.28; MFD=4.0µm @1310nm (4.8µm @1550nm)

  • Nufern UHNA4 (to SMF-28) - 1100-1600nm; Core NA=0.35; MFD=3.3µm @1310nm (4.0µm @1550nm)

  • Nufern UHNA7 (to SMF-28) - 1500-2000nm; Core NA=0.41; MFD=3.2µm @1550nm

  • Corning HA15-PS-U25D(TEC) (to PM-1550) - Cutoff Wavelength ≤1480nm; MFD=4.0µm @1550nm
